Another great book from Jamie Oliver, this time focusing on how to put more superfood foods into our diet through delicious recipes and some helpful tips. Each recipe comes with nutritional info and making time; at the end there is talk about healthy life through food, sleep and knowing how to bring quality and length to one's life.
If you want to know more of the last point, and more in detail, try Buettner's "Blue Zones" book. The foods are categorized by meal type: Each recipe has a photo, and some benefits of certain parts of meals are mentioned, sometimes twice or so.
Poppadoms and Marmite also pop up here and there poppadoms can even make a snack, when filled with some things, as is shown in a specific page for them. Some of my favorites were: It's true that I'm a picky eater, but even I found something appealing and delicious here.
I appreciated all the added nutritional information for the recipes, and the healthy information after the recipes was great, though I'm familiar with some facts and sleep already well. This is certainly one quality cookbook to have. View 2 comments. Oct 12, May Panayi rated it it was amazing. This book is brilliant.
I have followed Jamie Oliver's career since he was a sprog, with interest as I too hailed from Essex back then; but never bought any of his books because they just didn't seem like my taste.
Watching Superfood on TV, I thought, this guy is finally cooking the kind of food I like, the ingredients I tend towards anyway. So I bought the book. Every recipe I try is absolutely delicious; leaves my mouth reeling from the assault of flavours, and my body feeling satisfied i This book is brilliant. Every recipe I try is absolutely delicious; leaves my mouth reeling from the assault of flavours, and my body feeling satisfied in a way that is positively indolent for a book that helps you watch your weight.
The portion sizes are very generous and I can't believe I'm actually losing weight eating like this. But the food is so delicious. My husband thinks he's in heaven. I can only say to the people who are knocking this book; lay off the junk and give your taste buds a chance! Apr 02, Terri rated it it was amazing Shelves: As a personality, I find Jamie Oliver offputting. He's over the top in an irritating way and too impressed with himself. That he is always calling people he doesn't know well by supposed affectations like lovey, darl, me ol' mate, etc etc..
His books however, do not reflect his arrogance and self absorption most of the time. They most of the time reflect a love of food that I can respect. He doesn't pump out wo As a personality, I find Jamie Oliver offputting. He doesn't pump out worthless books that have no impact on the life of readers.
He actually does a damn good job spreading the word about fresh is best. Emphasizes the need to eat well and know where your food comes from.
His background in Italian peasant cookery and his early training at the River Cafe, really stuck with him throughout his cooking life and he has used his media mastery to get people of all classes making better choices and thinking about what they are putting into their mouths.
That hunger to get people cooking and eating fresh non processed foods is strongly embedded in this book, Everyday Super Food.
I have bought quite a few Oliver books over the years, and yet this one nearly turned me off with its use of those latest buzz words 'super food'. Aren't they all super food if they are fresh and unprocessed? However, I stumbled upon the tv series to go with the book and after watching a few episodes I was impressed.
In this book he is cooking how I eat these days. For example, swapping out processed flours for whole wheat. Brown rice instead of white. He is including foods that are loaded with nutrition such as black beans.
I am loving this book and am inspired by so many recipes in it. In fact, this could actually be the best cookbook this bloody drongo has ever put out. View all 9 comments. One of my favourite food authors and I wasn't disappointed. Flew through this great new cook book by Jamie Oliver and I have quite a few recipes I want to try.
Many of the recipes are whole food whilst all of them are more nutritious alternatives to favourites. This cook book will be heavily used in the coming months. Jan 05, Muphyn rated it really liked it Shelves: One of the most accessible and easy to use Jamie Oliver books! For a change, I feel like I could cook almost any dish in the book - which is rare with Jamie's books, at least his earlier ones. I've already tried three recipes and read all the other ones and they all turned out pretty good, especially the one where I actually stuck to the recipe!
D The one thing I'm not totally head of heels with is his approach to nutrition but that's mostly because I'm on a slightly different path and don't think milk is as fantastic as Jamie thinks it is, and the mantra 'as long as you eat everything in moderation, it's all good' isn't really my cup of tea either. But all in all, every dish is balanced and there's virtually no sugar, so YAY!
For anyone new to healthy eating and home cooking, this would be a great resource.
Overall, I am disappointed in this book. I understand that he wanted to focus on nutrition, but the recipes come across as a little bland , aside from Oliver's ever present chilis. He also uses ingredients which, in North America at least, are only available at certain times of the year and are expensive to boot pomegranates I am looking at you in particular. For someone who keeps saying he wants recipes to be affordable, this certainly implies that he means only for upper middle class readers Overall, I am disappointed in this book.

Very good tips, recipes, details of nutrition and good ideas complete with calorie and nutrition details per recipe.
Nice ideas to take favorites and modernize them, reduce the fat content but truly increase flavor and health benefits. Looking forward to trying the marmite and mushroom scrambled eggs, and the gluten free protein bread.
Lots of great ideas and wonderful focus on health nutritious food without all the faddishness that often accompanies any mention of 'super food' these days.

I was excited to see his take on eating healthy. I find it difficult to eat healthfully and not get bored. The narrative is great in this book and I enjoyed reading it. The same goes for the silken omelet.
My breakfast popovers did not come out at all. I am sure it was my error, but it was still a disappointment. I will attempt supper next-- although some planning time will need to come my way first.
It is an adventure I look forward to. Great book, lovely looking recipes, fab photos, excellent explanation of Jamie's Super food ethic at the back. As always a stunning book from Mr. Oliver just wondering now if he can combine the superfood ethic with his save with Jamie recipes as for millions of us out there that want to eat well but need to do so on a tight budget.
